Driving distance to trail head: 60 miles from Lake Lure.
Go on 64 through Hendersonville and through Etowah. The next village is Penrose.
At the Texaco Station in Penrose turn left into Crab Creek Road.
Go for 4.3 miles, turn right into DuPont Road,
Go 3.0 miles to the concrete bridge, which crosses the Little River.
The parking place is just before the bridge on the right (Dupond State Forest Parking).
Driving time: about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Hiking time: Round trip about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Rating: Easy, somewhat moderate around the falls.
Gear to bring: Water, trail snack, bathing suits (optional).
Hiking starts on the other side of the river, going along the river, you see Triple Falls after about 20 minutes hike. View of the falls is awesome. Continue to Highfalls, view is majestic.
Both falls have picnic shelters from which you can view the falls while you relax.
This wonderful place was purchased by the state of NC, just before a developer tried to snap it away. Enjoy the wild waters from a distance and close-up.
