Continental Divide Trail Hike

Distance to drive:           21 miles

Distance to walk: about 4 miles round trip

Hike Rating:                   moderate with some steep sections

Reward:                Stunning views towards Fairview and Hickory Nut Gorge.

Driving direction: Follow US 74A towards Ashville to the Continental divide sign (top of the road)

Hiking direction:

From there follow the trail on your left, turn left after a short distance and turn right at the T. A long hike up will bring you to a “perch” overlooking the valley toward Fairview. This will take about 45 minutes.

From there follow the yellow marker, till you see a trail going to the left (red marker). Follow the red marker, till you reach a saddle. Go straight up the hill (leave the red marker trail) and you will reach a meadow with a view to Hickory Nut Gorge. This will take about 30 minutes.                             Backtrack from there to 74A.

Have a well deserved lunch at one of the famous restaurants in Chimney Rock or LakeLure.
