Bearwallow Mountain in Henderson County is one of the more prominent 4,000-foot peaks near Hickory Nut Gorge.
The top of the mountain affords grand views of the western North Carolina high country, and of the area leading down toward Lake Lure.
Distance to drive: about 9 miles from Lake Lure
Distance to walk: about a half hour one way
Hike Rating: moderate, hiking boots required.
Reward: Stunning views
Driving direction: Follow 74 towards Asheville. turn Left on Bearwallow Mountain Road. Look for trail head on left.
Hiking direction: hike up the mountain!!
