The hike is a Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy hike.
The length is 2.2 miles roundtrip. CMLC classifies it as strenuous.
The hike involves a little of everything! A walk through an apple orchard, a rushing creek with a couple of creek crossings on stepping stones and then at the end of the uphill portion is a 100ft. waterfall.
I would recommend bringing extra shoes to change into after the hike, and no dogs because the paths are narrow.
- On 64 heading to Asheville; across from the Florence- Preserve in Gerton.
- On the right you will see a large chimney marking the start of the Florence- Preserve Hiking area
- Park there and go across the street.
- The sign is hard to see but follow the path through the apple orchard.
Of special note:
Look high on a tree before the trail to see a great message someone left here:
I have typed it out below
PRAYER FOR PEACE:
“O great spirit of our ancestors I raise my pipe to you. To your messengers the four winds and to Mother Earth who provides for your children. Give us wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other so that they may grow with peace of mind. Let us learn to share all the good things that you provide for us on this Sacred Earth”.
Namaste, Russ Meade
